Yahoo Article Visual Redesign
Creating a modern look for article pages in conjunction with Yahoo site brand refresh
One of Yahoo News’ main goals is to elevate the visual reading experience. This project also aimed to align the article page design with the newly redesigned Yahoo homepage for a cohesive user journey.
My role
I was responsible to align with the other design team working on the redesigned homepage. My main task is to explore the new visual and brand identity and apply it to the article page so it has a similar look and feel.
The outcome
• Create a unifying and consistent visuals
• Elevate article page with modern look and feel
• Design element consistency with newly redesigned homepage
The challenge
• Moving target because homepage team is also experimenting with various design
• Launch date is ambiguous
• Everchanging designs – waste of time
To address these problems, design and product pivoted to a different process. Addressing and tackling issues into bite sized problems and then having a phased rollout.
The takeaways
The team started to roll out the changes in phases since this project relies on the homepage team redesign. As for design, it is always nice to explore beyond the current product strategy and create a blue sky concept. As designers, it is our responsibilities to move beyond execution level and have design in hand to influence the product strategy.
